February 28, 2000

A U.S. Military Sealift Command fuel ship was reportedly in a collision with a civilian vessel on Sunday (Feb. 27) while preparing to enter the Jebel Ali port in the United Arab Emirates, the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said. It said in a statement that the USNS Yukon, which provides fuel to U.S. Fifth Fleet ships and aircraft, was involved in the collision with the 135-foot Inchcape-14. Six Inchcape-14 crew members were taken off their vessel, which was kept afloat by harbor tugs, onto the Yukon and a nearby harbor pilot vessel. The central command said the incident was under investigation.
